Group Leaders - Help To Make Changes To Your Web Pages

For those of you who would like to update your group’s web page but don’t have the IT skills to do so, we are offering a service to do this for you. We can Offer:

  • Any changes to your group details, such as leader, meeting venue, times, day of the week etc.
  • Create an “event” for you that gives all the information your group members need in advance of the group’s planned future outing or event. (And it magically disappears after the event date!) Just send us all the details
  • Create a “post”. If you have been on an interesting trip out, or perhaps a meal somewhere with your group, please drop us a couple of paragraphs about it, and one or two pictures if possible and we will create a post on your group pages. We know people enjoy keeping these sorts of memories alive and it gives other web visitors a real example of the sort of activities your group does, so it’s well worth doing.

To request any of the above changes, please send us a message with the details by clicking on either of these contacts, Chairman or Web Manager

Guidelines for Web Authors

Below are some guidelines developed to help give a consistent and easy to navigate feel to our web site. These complement the style of the Site Works theme that this site is based on. Contact the Web Manager with any queries about using these guidelines

  1. Additional group pages should be created with a prefix identifying the group.  For example W4A = Walking for All
  2. All links that open new documents, websites, audio files, etc. to do so as a new tab
  3. A link to another internal web site page should not open a new tab
  4. Please avoid using exposed links1
  5. Never use explicit email addresses2
  6. Every additional group page should contain a paragraph block at the bottom of the page, right justified and linking back to the group home page
  7. Events and Posts should contain a paragraph block at the bottom of the page, right justified and linking back to the appropriate page
  8. Limit the use of ‘button’ blocks to only a few per page to avoid clutter (remember links can be added to headings, text, images or lists, so there are plenty of alternatives)
  9. Minimise use of stock images and use your own photos wherever possible
  10. Please use ‘u3a’, not U3A!

SiteWorks Foundation Editing Guide

The SiteWorks Foundation Editing Guide covers the basic features and functions of page creation and editing using u3a SiteWorks and can be viewed as a foundation or entry level guide. It contains the things that most web managers and group leaders will want to use on their websites. It provides enough detail to be able to produce professional looking pages while remaining as non-technical as possible so that anyone who has the ability to use text editing software and drop-down menus should be able to use it

  1. An exposed link is the actual spelled out web address, e.g. https:\\website.example.com. ↩︎
  2. Explicit email addresses are a security risk ↩︎
