The 'Missing People' Charity was founded after the disappearance of Suzy Lamplugh, the estate agent, in the early 1990s. It was quickly discovered back then that there was no organisation to turn to for help. Suzy's two friends, Mary Asprey and Janet Newman set up a helpline in Mary's bedroom.
Soon the phone was ringing night and day from families desperately looking for loved ones. It snowballed into a major charity. The Fred West case would not have been solved without the charity's help. John Major, the then Prime Minister, thanked them in the House of Commons. Praise indeed.
Natalie returns to our u3a to tell us all about the 'Missing People' charity after her superb talk last year 'The Fiddle'.
