Nine walkers led by Mel Houlder, trekked a fabulous 6 miles starting at Wilderhope Manor, taking in extensive views south to the Clee Hills before heading back along Stanway Coppice and into Mogg Forest. From there the group walked up to a hill fort scrambling through brambles, nettles and overgrown undergrowth. It was worth it to see the magnificent beech trees at the top. Two of the trees were old enough to have fused together at the limbs creating an almost single entity. Quite fascinating. On the trek back two more beeches were entwined in a loving embrace (see photos below).
Later the walk passed through meadow fields thick with buttercups, wild radish and other wild flowers, before returning to the Manor. Unlike previous days, a light breeze kept the party from baking in the sun. Perfect for walking.
