Walk Leader - Elizabeth Sutherland
Nine people joined Elizabeth on a sunny, warm and breezy day. We parked in the car park closest to the top of Stiperstones. The path along the ridge presented a few problems underfoot - being made of large pieces of quartzite. However the group were rewarded with 360° views across the Shropshire hills to the south and the Shropshire plain to the north. Our morning coffee break was taken using the Devil's Chair as a windbreak. The route continued northwards skirting The Paddock before turning to head south on the eastern slopes of the hill. Here the path was soft underfoot and often lined with gorse in full bloom - with the distinctive coconut aroma.
After passing through the Brook Vessons Nature Reserve we took our lunch sitting on grassy banks of the path - sheltered from the wind by trees and bathed in warm sunshine. The route then climbed to the ridge before descending once more to a path through the Gatten Plantation and then on to the car park.
Everyone agreed it was a lovely walk and thanked Elizabeth for discovering it - and for arranging the weather.
