On Saturday the 20th December The Lady Forester Nursing Home held their Christmas Carol event for the residents and their relatives. We were invited along to play some Christmas songs. Emma, who is their event co-ordinator, selected a short set list from the songs on our web site. She was aiming to get a sing-along going, so we had the usual selection including Jingle Bells, Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and so on - about six song and finishing with the marathon that is The Twelve Days of Christmas. She had rehearsed the songs with residents several times, so we were hopeful of good audience participation.
Our small band with the mayor, Dan Thomas and his son.
The event started with three traditional carols, with which we joined in. When it came to our turn, we could see that Emma had equipped many of the residents with bells and other percussion. A couple had mouth organs so they joined in as well. As the first song was Jingle Bells there was certainly much bell jangling going on! All the songs seemed to go down well, even the mistakes were all part and parcel of the enjoyment in this light-hearted afternoon.
Afterwards we were invited to have a cup of tea or mulled wine and take our pick from the many items of cake on display. So all in all a very good afternoon for the eight of us from the Uke3A who could make it together with the valuable support of two uke friends, Brigitte and Rich.
A good audience with lots of joining-in
